The Wachusett Regional School District’s total student enrollment peaked in FY 2010 at 7493. SEE Page 8– http://www.wrsdonline.net/finance/FY16BudgetBook.pdf
During FY 2022, the latest year for which the WRSD published its enrollment figures (it has the FY 2022 enrollment stats but, unsurprisingly, failed to publish its FY 2023 “Budget Book,” including those stats, in time for this year’s WRSD-Region Annual Town Meetings), total enrollment had dropped to 6586. SEE page 8– http://www.wrsdonline.net/finance/FY22BudgetBook.pdf
That’s a whopping 907 drop in students, EQUIVALENT TO AT LEAST THIRTY (30) EMPTY CLASSROOMS.
As hard-working taxpayers you’d expect WRSD administrators and the WRSD Committee to display a modicum of honesty, decency, good faith, fortitude, and fiscal responsibility by executing SUBSTANTIAL teacher and staff “Reductions in Force” (RIFs), with corresponding SUBSTANTIAL WRSD budget cuts, passing the savings onto long-suffering WRSD-Region taxpayers, wouldn’t you?
Well, given that unionized hacks– https://wachusett.massteacher.org/ –dominate the WRSD staffing and budgeting process, turns out your expectations are misguided. By the way, this will provide you an overview of the Massachusetts Teachers Association’s REAL priorities, and they DO NOT include educating your kids in English, Foreign Languages, U.S. History, Ancient History, Civics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.– https://massteacher.org/ The MTA is a front for parasitical grifters.
Let’s place blame for the ongoing WRSD budget scamming where it ALSO belongs, and that’s with the WRSD-Region Towns’ Select Boards and their appointed Finance Committees. When was the last time you heard ANY of them say, at their respective Annual Town Meetings, that they OPPOSE a WRSD budget request? That’s right–NEVER—because if they have cojones at all they are the cojones of fruit flies.
As recently as FY 2016 the WRSD budget was $84 million. SEE “Attachment A” — http://www.wrsdonline.net/finance/FY16BudgetBook.pdf In a mere six (years) the WRSD budget increased an ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS $31 million, to $105 million, while student enrollment dropped. SEE Page 14– http://www.wrsdonline.net/finance/FY22BudgetBook.pdf
Yes folks, the WRSD constitutes a huge financial scamming operation at taxpayer expense, but it is just a microcosm of so-called ‘Public Education’ as a whole. Inimitable and irrepressible author, lawyer, and retired Army colonel Kurt Schlichter has it right– https://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2022/04/18/defending-american-democracy-requires-we-start-by-crushing-the-public-school-weirdos-n2605963
