According to the latest Sterling D.P.W. Board Agenda– https://www.sterling-ma.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif1266/f/agendas/agenda_dpw_2-22-2022.docx –it is now planning to put a Town Well in the Wekepeke Brook headwaters area, known as the ‘Wekepeke Reservation,’ owned by the Town of Clinton as water resource. This would endanger the Wekepeke Brook’s native brook trout population. The 2002 Town of Sterling Open Space and Recreation Plan, that I can no longer locate on-line, had a section on the Wekepeke Brook’s sensitivity to drought and said that in times of drought groundwater seeping and feeding into Wekepeke Brook helps to keep its waters cold enough to sustain its native brook trout population. Pumping down the groundwater level in the Wekepeke Brook’s headwaters area would constitute a grave threat to those brook trout. Back in 2007-2008 the Sterling Select Board was caught red-faced at having negotiated secretly with Nestle Waters North America and the Town of Clinton Select Board about permitting Nestle Waters to pump down the Wekepeke Brook headwaters-area groundwater for profit. The plan was illegal. The applicable late-1800s state legislation only allowed the Town of Clinton to take by eminent domain and/or by purchase Wekepeke headwaters watershed land to impound and use its surface water only, not groundwater, for ITS MUNICIPAL PURPOSES. Moreover, Nestle’s proposal violated Sterling’s Zoning By-Laws. THE STERLING SELECT BOARD, BUILDING UPON ITS SUCCESS IN PAINTING THE WORLD’S SHORTEST, MOST POINTLESS, AND MOST IDIOTIC ‘BIKE LANE’–THE ONE ON WAUSHACUM AVENUE–MOVES TO APPROVE WESTON & SAMPSON’S TRULY INSPIRED MAIN STREET PLANNING PROPOSAL

Waushacum Avenue in downtown Sterling isn’t much of an ‘avenue.’ It runs a few hundred yards from Main Street to its intersection with Bird Street. From there Newell Hill Road–really the Waushacum Avenue extension–goes up Newell Hill.

YET Waushacum Avenue, for those of you who never noticed it, has a relatively new, very impressive yellow-painted ‘bike lane’ that runs 150 yards or so to…nowhere. That’s right, that ‘bike lane’ doesn’t even extend to Bird Street. It ends at the School Street intersection! It’s the ONLY designated ‘bike lane’ on any street in downtown Sterling. It’s truly AWESOME! If you bike back and forth on that ‘bike lane’ once you get about 300 yards of pedaling. If you do it six (6) times you get about one mile of pedaling. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m seriously considering buying a bicycle so I can get in some truly ‘safe’ exercise within the yellow-painted confines of that ‘bike lane.’ No more trail running or Ju Jitsu training or stuff like that for me, NO SIRREE! I want to be just as safe as the mindless Branch Covidian morons who drive around alone in their cars all masked-up. Hey, they don’t call this Commie Commonwealth ‘Maskachusetts’ for nothing, after all.

Here in Massachusetts Town Master Plans are completed by other towns in nine (9) to twenty-four (24) months. Domenica Tatasciore was, therefore, a Cranson and Kilcoyne-approved grifter at Sterling taxpayer expense.

Since private property lines much of Main Street in Sterling Center on both sides, there is a limit to what these geniuses can accomplish without taking private property by “eminent domain” to reconfigure whatever it is that they may want to reconfigure. Taking private property by “eminent domain”–also known as “condemnation proceedings”– is expensive, not to mention arbitrary and unfair to the owner(s).

“Revitalizing” Sterling Center really comes down to three words–PARKING AND WALKING. The Town of Sterling owns the Memorial Park behind the Fire Station and more than 13 acres of open, ledgy land behind the Sterling Municipal Building. Let’s see if Sterling’s Townspeople are willing to put a parking lot or parking garage on either one of those parcels. Place your bets now!
