As failing government schools trumpeting asinine DEI policies continue to lose students across Massachusetts who are looking for sane, competent instruction elsewhere, reality is setting in amongst a few school districts/municipalities whose leaders don’t live in ‘cloud cuckoo land’ (wolkenkuckucksheim), and they are doing something about it. They are slashing payroll bloat despite knee-jerk whining by the largest Public Payroll Grifter Union in Massachusetts—the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
We taxpayers living in the Wachusett Regional School District are catching a small break for Fiscal Year 2027, NOT because the robotic morons comprising the WRSD Committee and Administration exhibited a modicum of courage or integrity—they possess neither—but BECAUSE VOTERS IN PAXTON AND RUTLAND SHOT DOWN PROPOSITION 2 ½ PROPERTY TAX OVERRIDES (YAY!!!), THEREBY FORCING THE PAYROLL-BLOATED WRSD TO REVISE ITS FY 2027 BUDGET DOWNWARD.
NOTE that Holden voters passed a massive $5.5 million override. WHY? Because Holden is populated by a HUGE contingent of WRSD strap-hangers.
NOTE ALSO that the Worcester T & G article acknowledges that the failing, sub-standard WRSD has lost a total of 650 students over the past 8 years. Yes, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
The truth is that the failing, sub-standard WRSD has lost more than 1000 students since FY 2010 when it reached peak enrollment of 7493. Total WRSD student enrollment is now 6427.

HOWEVER, while WRSD student enrollment plummeted the WRSD continued adding employees and its budget skyrocketed. The WRSD payroll now exceeds 1000, or 1 for every 6.4 students. The WRSD is a job farm for grifters, at taxpayer expense, unable to hack it in ‘THE DREADED PRIVATE SECTOR.’
In FY 2015 the WRSD budget was $81.3 million. This Fiscal Year—2025-2026—the WRSD budget is $129,515,225, a staggering increase as the loss of students over the years equates to about 67 empty classrooms.
Given those numbers, in a competently, sanely, efficiently-run school district, two or three schools would be closed and consolidated, and MULTIPLE teachers, staff, and excess administrators would be canned. BUT the WRSD is not competently, sanely, or efficiently run.
SO WRSD taxpayers, please enjoy the relatively minor FY 2027 property tax break you will enjoy thanks to grounded Paxton and Rutland voters.
The WRSD grifter-parasites will be back next year hoping to screw you some more.
J.G.
